"I am now in the land of corn, wine, oil, and sunshine. What more can a man ask of heaven? - Thomas Jefferson
in Aix-en-Provence, March 27, 1787. I could say the same today, looking at the same chateaus, and villages as he - in the year 2012. We are staying in a maison built after World War I in Lourmarin, a village steeped in history and surrounded by vinyards and olive groves. There will be so many places to see in our two weeks here! The village was built in the 18th Century, on the ruins of an 11th Century fortress. Of course, savoring the Provencal cooking along with local wines will be required of us. The streets are narrow and winding and knowing where to go is easy - only if you are a local! The weather is perfect - warm in the low 80's, but a fresh breeze wafts through my open shuttered windows in my upstairs quarters.
